I feel like I’ve tapped into a whole other world ever since the OPI Avojuice lotions came into my life.
For a long time, I thought that hydrating lotions had to be really thick and greasy. Even so, I was constantly on the hunt to find one that would absorb quickly so that I wouldn’t leave a gross mess on my keyboard at work.
You’ll remember that I reviewed OPI Avojuice Violet Orchid not long ago. At the same time I was testing that out, I also tried the OPI Avojuice Peony & Poppy Hand & Body Lotion.
So how did it compare? And would I recommend one scent over the other? There’s only one way to find out!

OPI Avojuice Peony & Poppy Hand & Body Lotion Review
Compared to Violet Orchid, the OPI Avojuice Peony & Poppy lotion didn’t smell fruity at all. It’s a floral that reminds me of soft, mature perfume without the overly powdery note.
If you enjoy floral fragrances instead of ones that make you smell edible or like you were a cupcake in your previous life, this might be right up your alley.
However, my personal scent preference is pretty immature – I love smelling like baked goods, even if it makes the neighbourhood dogs want to sniff me more as they’re going for a walk. (Heck, I even love burning scented candles that make my home smell edible. Perhaps I am the woman who lived in the gingerbread house that Hansel and Gretel visited.)
Peony & Poppy isn’t “me”. When I smell this, I get a mental image of an elegant lady. (If you smell the perfume I wear on a daily basis, it’s pretty safe to say that I’m the type of person who would slather myself with vanilla frosting if it was socially acceptable and hygienic. Yeah, a real class act, right?) 😉
Sorry, but I’m not a fan of Peony & Poppy at all! Strong florals tend to give me a headache, and unfortunately, this was no exception. After mere minutes of wearing it and bringing my hands to my nose repeatedly (so that I could review the scent better), my head was pounding.
The scent isn’t strong, but I am extremely sensitive to certain florals. It lingers (even after you’ve washed your hands once), and then eventually it fades after a couple of hours, so much that you won’t really notice it.
Just like the other OPI Avojuices, this one has an excellent consistency. It’s thin and smooth. When you put it on your hands, it feels wonderful!
What I love about the OPI Avojuices is that they don’t take forever and a day to absorb. (Insert an “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” picture here – haha!)
I like lotions that absorb fast because I tend to use them at work. Since I type on the keyboard a lot for work, I don’t like to wait around for lotion to absorb before I can continue.
This is so fast-absorbing, it’s crazy! You smooth it on, and it sinks in quickly – just a few seconds. You don’t have to keep rubbing your hands to kingdom come.
Despite it having a thin consistency, I found that it offered a nice, everyday, light level of hydration. It’s perfect for using after you’ve washed your hands.
If you have severely chapped skin after snowboarding in the winter, I don’t think this will heal your skin quickly. It’s best used as skincare maintenance, and I guess as aromatherapy, too, since if you like the scent, it can relax you.
How It Feels on the Skin
It doesn’t feel greasy at all, which is a huge plus for me! Greasy skin really annoys me because it gets all over my keyboard – yuck!
The OPI Avojuices make your skin feel smooth, soft, and silky, but never greasy! It helps your skin looks healthy and lightly hydrated.
OPI’s PR sent me the trial size, which is 30 ml. I like how the small size can easily fit into my purse – it encourages me to use lotion, even when on the go.
What I didn’t like is that the lotion shoots out fast from the opening, even if you squeeze the bottle very slowly. So be careful! Pay attention to when you’re using it, and only squeeze very gently, or you’ll have lotion up to your eyeballs!
Oh, and another thing I liked about it is that the bottle’s clear. This makes is easier for you to see how much product you have left.
Final Verdict: 4/10
I’m giving the OPI Avojuice Peony & Poppy Hand & Body Lotion a “BUSTED” score only because the floral scent gave me a bad headache.
If it weren’t for that, I would give it a glowing score because I love the formula, how it makes my skin feel, and the fact that it’s not greasy at all and absorbs so fast!
As with any scented products, you should try before you buy to make sure that it agrees with your nose!
Are you a fan of floral fragrances? Or would you rather like to smell of baked goods?
