Initially I went into Bath & Body Works to pick up the large 3-wick S’mores candle since I already tested out the mini version of it and liked it. But then I got sidetracked and forgot about my main purpose. What else is new?
There it was, beckoning to me with a sweetness that I couldn’t resist! Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside seemed like a scent that was right up my alley.
After I eagerly popped the top off this baby, I took a whiff of this new fall scent. My nose was greeted with a soft marshmallow scent.
Did I want to marry it? Did I use it as a paperweight? There’s only one way to find out!

Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle Review
If a scent could curtsey, that’s exactly what Marshmallow Fireside would do! It’s a dainty, soft, light-as-air fragrance that I can’t picture would be offensive to anyone’s nose.
You can mildly detect marshmallows and the smell of burning wood at a campfire.
While fall scents, like the Slatkin & Co. Leaves Candle, are rich and strong, Marshmallow Fireside dances around the fire like a woodland fairy. It’s so faint that you really have to take a deep breath to detect anything in the air.
So while I appreciate the concept behind this yummy fragrance, I feel like they should’ve amped up its strength to make it worthwhile.
I’ve been burning it a few times since I bought it (3 hours each time) just to make sure that the fragrance didn’t get stronger the longer I burned it. Unfortunately, it remained mild.
Good news – it burned perfectly! Sometimes, with other candles, the flame dies out when the pool of wax gets deeper, but this one didn’t have that problem. But, I think it varies also from candle to candle. It probably has to do with the placement of the wicks.
I burned the candle for 3 hours each time I used it. The pool of wax melted evenly – no tunneling/canyon effect. Also, the wax hardly went down even after using it for a total of 9 hours. That’s why I generally like Slatkin & Co. candles – they really last a long time, so you get your money’s worth.
The design is simple and elegant. It’s not flashy or colourful, so it’s easy to fit into any home decor. Besides, the picture is printed on a label that you can remove if you want.
I always leave my labels on, though, because I like to see the picture and remember the name of the candle.
On the label, Marshmallow Fireside features 3 large, yummy-looking marshmallows being toasted over a fire. It makes me crave s’mores.
This is a new fall 2011 candle scent, and I’m not sure if it’s a limited edition or if it’ll be brought back next year.
Final Verdict: 5/10
As much as I wanted to love the Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle, it was very underwhelming. I think that a large 3-wick candle should have a stronger scent throw and intensity. Because of this, I’m considering exchanging this for a different scent (like a back-up of the Frosted Cupcake Candle, which I absolutely love). But maybe I’ll just keep it and burn it alongside another candle.
Are you a sucker for Marshmallow scents, too? If you weren’t completely in love with a candle, would you return/exchange it? Have you done this at Bath & Body Works before?
